KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded a drastic decline in daily Covid-19 cases to 16,073 from yesterday’s 19,198.
This takes the nation’s cumulative total to 1,995,771 since the pandemic began.
In the lead is Sarawak with 3,522 infections, followed by Johor (2,030) and Selangor (1,947).
Sabah saw 1,649 cases, Penang (1,243), Kedah (1,191), Kelantan (1,070), Perak (1,011), Pahang (878), Terengganu (704), Kuala Lumpur (398), Melaka (206), Negri Sembilan (156), Perlis (41), Putrajaya (16) and Labuan (11).
As at 5pm yesterday, the intensive care unit bed capacity for coronavirus patients stood at 83%, and for non-ICU beds, 75%.
Up to 11.59pm yesterday, 91.3% of Malaysia’s adult population had received one vaccine dose, while 73.4% were fully inoculated.
In a statement, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 16,073 new cases today, 233 (1.5%) are in Categories 3, 4 and 5, while 15,840 (98.5%) are in the less-severe Categories 1 and 2.
He said the country also recorded 24,813 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 1,746,526.
He said 1,312 patients are in intensive care, with 698 requiring breathing assistance.
Twenty-one of the fresh infections were imported, he said.
Dr Noor Hisham said the national infectivity rate is below 1.0, at 0.98.
Sarawak tops the list at 1.18, followed by Terengganu (1.08), Johor (1.04), Perak and Perlis (both 1.03), Kelantan and Penang (both 1.02), and Pahang (1.00).
Malaysia has seen an overall 5,153 Covid-19 clusters, including 32 new ones today.
A total of 3,709 clusters are contained, leaving 1,444 still active.
